Childrens Services Council - Child Safety

Around Town

One day your child is going to cross the street without you. One day your child will bicycle out of your sight to go to a friend’s house around the corner. One day your child may ask you for a skateboard.

It’s important that before those days happen you teach your child the best way to stay safe.

Consider that:

  • More than twice as many child pedestrians are killed on Halloween than any other time of the year.
  • Nearly 40 percent of all people injured in golf cart crashes are under the age of 16.
  • More than 200,000 children are brought to emergency rooms every years for injuries suffered on playgrounds.
  • More than 82,000 people are treated in emergency rooms every year for skateboarding with most of the fatalities teenagers or younger.

Please click the menu to the left for helpful safety tips for active kids as well as ways that parents can keep younger children safe.
